Ben shows off some of his magic on this page — and he was quite the show-off when he was younger. Not only did he “Stop” Kip but he also “Mute”ed him — which would keep him from moving and from using magic/shouting for help. For a little while at least.
Kip probably could have fended off the attack if he had been ready for it — as I noted on the page before. Putting that pillowcase over his head also helped to block two major instruments of a Mind Mage — direct eye contact and clarity of voice. So there was a reason for doing that, actually, despite the fact Ben doesn’t exactly know Kip is a Mind Mage, yet.
And the boys make a break for it. How long do you think this is going to last?
