Journeymaster
“Letter!” Bikk shouted through the window of Fu’s residence. This was a common happening, but it still didn’t prevent Fu from almost smudging all the work he had been slaving over that morning.
“Augh!” Fu turned with a scowl. “Why can you not–”
Fu kept telling himself not to let the feeling get to his head. Still, he had to admit, the way his once-peers looked at him and side stepped out of his way as he walked down the halls in his Journeymaster robes was very pleasing. Fu started making a name for himself early, and most of them knew better than to cross him in general. Wearing the robes of a ranked Journeymaster, however, took it to a whole new level.
“Fu!” Nikko didn’t bother to knock on the door before bursting in anymore. Her call was all the warning she decided he deserved. “I heard the great news!”
He turned to welcome her, trying to hide the smile that threatened to turn into smug pleasure. This was wiped away as the girl rushed across the room and gave him a big, unexpected hug.
Fu didn’t really expect Nikko to accept his invitation to dinner. So, when she did, he found himself in a flurry of confusion to get ready for the occasion. While they talked and sometimes walked through the city together, this was his first time going on a prospectively romantic-type outing. Ever.
His best non-Journeymaster robes needed spot-checking. His hair needed a bit of a trim – when did it get so long? He needed to find the right place to eat. The cafeteria was certainly not a choice.
“Fu… So… Ya!” Nikko said in three gasping laughs. Her mouth was wide open, eyes bright and the deepest green he’d ever seen. She grabbed both of his hands in hers, and before he could protest, they were spinning around in a momentum of her laughter and night air.
Now that they were far away from the eating establishment and the Manor, she didn’t care how loud she laughed or who was watching. Fu only puzzled at her strange behavior, caught up in her twirling mirth.
Just when things were going good, there was always that down point that spoiled everything. This was one of them, the day when Fu had to talk to his father. There was no getting around it. He needed official paperwork signed and Father was the only one that could provide that.
For not being a Master, they sure do need a lot of things signed off by Father.
