WHENCE THEY MEET
(FFIV)

Whence they meet, the light and the dark,
His old life a shadow, stripped and stark
To reveal a whiteness that is just a part
Of the blackness that on his soul made a mark.
Two halves, yet one, the dark and the light,
Paladin's black heart wiped clean and white.
It shines through, a soul free of fright
The courage his boon, the faith his birthright.

Whence they meet, the young and the old,
Changes have robbed her of innocence bold.
Growing up in a world where it's told
To seek the righteousness of the Monsters' souls.
Two parts, one woman, adult and child,
Her hair, emerald wisps; her eyes blue and wild,
Yet on her face a youthful smile
That tells the tale of her life and beguiles.

When last they met, the girl and the man,
He saved her from hellfire, holding her hand.
He led her through passage, through rubble, through the land--
She was gone in the instant he awoke on the sand.

When again they met, the knight and the lady,
Her childhood was gone and his darkness was fading.
Reluctant to accept, through all the persuading,
That time left them loners in a world so unchanging.
Side by side the pair move on,
Knowing that age and heart came and gone.
The Clock is uncaring, but the moral of this song
Is to be open to changes as life rolls along.
